Dr. Suess week was a huge success because the children loved talking about this theme and we shared which Dr. Seuss book was our favorite. Cat in the Hat seemed to be a popular book among the children. The children were shown different books that Dr. Suess wrote and we talked about the books. They noticed that some of the books rhymed, some didn’t make sense, and some were silly.
We went to Playhouse Square to see The Gruffalo’s Child. The children seemed to love this play! They were watching everything that was happening on the stage. We talked about what we liked and didn’t like about the play. We also talked about things that we remembered from the play. The children have been working on putting their seatbelts on and off by themselves. We like for the to try before asking for help.
We made a list of Yy words, read the Yy word book to help then come up with Yy words. We practiced writing sight words that we have learned so far. The children listened to a song that had letter sounds and when we were done listening to it, we practiced saying what sound each letter makes.
We did a number review to see if the children remembered any of the 0-20 numbers, the children did some simple subtraction using the Match It! puzzles, we practiced counting using 1:1 correspondence, the children practiced writing the number 24 using objects, and they counted 24 objects as it is our number of the week.
We recreated the One Fish Two Fish Red Fish and Blue Fish book, they made Green Eggs and Ham,, they cut and pasted red strips for the Cat in the Hat, and we made The Lorax in Art. We had fun because it was messy and glue was EVERYWHERE! The children had fun creating their Dr. Suess Art projects.
The book playoff is a hit so far with the children because as we are reading different books to the children, they will tell me if the book is familiar or not familiar to them. This is a great way to expose them to books that have never read or seen before. After we read the books, we vote on which book we like the best. The children can’t wait to see which book wins! I can’t wait either!!
This month, we are doing a donation drive for Safe Harbor Animal Rescue. After we are done with the donation drive, we take the items to Safe Harbor Animal Rescue so that the children can see how we are helping the rescues by giving them items they need to take care of the dogs. My dogs have come from a rescue so I like to help them in a way I can. I have a flyer on my parent board and Ms. Holle sent a flyer as well.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!
