Our theme this week is summer and judging by the weather outside, it is a wonderful time to have a theme about this season.  We have had the chance to get outside for short amounts of time to let them feel the warmth and to soak up some fresh air.  The older children have painted on foil, colored on paper and chalked on chalkboards.  They are working on their ball rolling skills and moving pom poms into different cups in a muffin tin.  All have played with rings and their containers with the older children practicing dropping them, while the younger children found some textured teething toys to enjoy.  They have dropped cars down the long cardboard tube and worked on getting toy bugs out of paper bag.  They have tried pushing trains on masking tape car lanes and watched puppets sings Itsy, Bitsy, Spider.  Paint in baggies to manipulate has been tried several times and peek-a-boo initiated by teachers and the children has been a big hit this week.  We have read books and watched flannel board stories about different animals and all are working on developmental skills that will help them move forward.  This week also has mud day at the end of it and this promises to be dirty and fun, we have children that love it and some that aren’t so fond of it, but it is a great time to get out and explore something different.  Next week will be all about America the Beautiful, where we will listen to stories about fireworks, the colors red, white and blue and July 4th.  Promises to fun!
