It has been a fun week of all things Fall! Monday in art the children painted wooden acorns, and in language they incorporated some fine motor skill of letter identification with stringing letters. In math the children engaged in the Squirrel In The Orchard Game. Tuesday in art the children tore orange, red, and yellow paper and glued to a tree, and in math they engaged in a fall bingo game. Wednesday in art the children dot painted pumpkins and in language they matched letters to lettered acorns. In math the children did pumpkin pie math where they picked a card, counted the dots and then added that number of orange pompoms to a pie plate. Today in art the children fork print and painted leaves and in language they matched pumpkin letters. In math the children added pumpkin counters to a grid. Tomorrow in art the children will do some collage painting with fall colors and in language they will pick an apple letter out of a basket and write the letter on paper. In the sensory table this week the children worked with letters, ladles, and bowls, and today we added white pom poms and apples and tins for a dry experience of materials to work with. In the block area the children have been very interested in a floor puzzle of space, and we also added small waffle builders to the area. The apple orchard in drama continues to be a popular place and this week we added gourds and pie plates for more engagement of materials. The children have also been talking a lot about pie and today the children watched a video on how apple pie is made, and now they would like to make an apple pie which we plan to do now next week! This week the children enjoyed the book, “The Leaves Are Falling,” that can be sung to the tune of The Ants Go Marching, and we have sang this book a few times already and we can hear the children singing the song in their own play now too!
