It is out of this world week and the children are enjoying the fun activities. Monday in art the children made spaceships with bowls and glued foam pieces to them. In language the children explored beginning letter sounds by matching the picture star to the matching letter. In math the children engaged in outer space bingo game. Tuesday in art the children painted their own picture of outer space using various colors of paint. In math the children added sun rays to the sun using a die to tell how many to add each turn. Wednesday in art the children painted with watercolor paints and in language the children explored their pre-writing skills to trace curvy and zig zag lines. In math the children engaged in a game to match sun and planet pictures. Today in art the children painted coffee filters with watercolor paints and in language they matched lettered stars, and practiced writing them. In math the children built their own rocket using small wooden blocks. Tomorrow in art the children will explore shaving cream and watercolors to mix and then press paper on it to see what it creates. In language the children will dictate what they would bring with them if they went to space. In math the children will sort letters by font. In the sensory table this week the children explored rice with large bottles, scoops and small bowls. In the block area we have added more materials to make it more fun; such as wrapping many boxes in white and we are currently wrapping the wooden blocks to give the children ideas for other things they can create, today the children were building snow angels. Arctic animals and people were added along with pictures of penguins, and snow buildings to help spark some ideas. In the drama area we cleaned up the gift wrap center and as we transition to the next theme, the children showed a lot of interest when we added the basics of dishes, pots and pans and food. So, to enhance the area and build on their interest we added chef hats, aprons, and oven gloves to the area and it has now become a kitchen! The children are loving this set up!
