Spring has sprung, a little bit so far and we can’t wait for more spring days ahead. The children have been learning all about the signs of spring of the leaves growing back on the trees, flowers blooming, rainy days and rainbows! In art thus week the children painted with bright colors, they glued together parts of a flower and painted with spring themed stamps. The children cut paper to glue a rainbow and tomorrow they will do some table easel painting. In math the children engaged in a spring bingo activity, explored numbers by matching a numbered clothespins to the matching number butterfly. We added magnet blocks to the math area and the children have been very interested and we have let them put their creativity to work. Tomorrow the children will explore a number sense activity with raindrops. In language this week the children have explored matching lower case letters, they have practiced writing spring words and engaged in an activity of position words to move a duck in various positions around a pond. The children have also matched lettered birds and tomorrow they will practice more letter writing. The drama area is busy busy with the pets and doctor clothes and today the children pretended the pets were their babies as they stuffed them under their shirts. The block area is going through a change up so right now the children have been busy building elaborate constructions with the unit blocks. The art shelf also continues to be a popular spot and the children are finding ways to use the materials in their own unique ways, we love to see all this creativity. In the sensory table this week the children worked with colored rice, flower pots and fabric flowers. We also introduced some sensory dough to work with and the children are enjoying this as well.
