Pet Week

What a fun week we have had – not only have we been learning about all different types of pets but it is Week of the Young Child as well, so our children have experienced various activities alongside the older children throughout the center.  They worked with a teacher to make trail mix baggies and played on homemade instruments with all the children at one time.  They will also be participating in making a handprint mural and building with Legos with children from another classroom.  Inside our room, they have built with nesting cups, stacked rings on posts, pushed balls back and forth, chalked on chalkboards, and explored pom poms inside of whisks.  We had different types of shape sorters out to increase the difficulty for the older children while letting the younger babies figure out how to let items go into a container.  We have read different books about pets and watched puppets sing Old MacDonald.  They have listened to songs about ducks, monkeys, and buses.  Pretend ice cream cones have been out to practice stacking and banging together.  Many of our younger children are working on sitting independently and reaching for toys while our older babies are practicing using a toothbrush everyday after lunch.  They have had shakers, ribbons, and scarves to move to music and the Beck Center came to sing and make music with them, they loved tapping on the tambourines to make their own music.  It has been a week to celebrate being a child, and they have embraced it and had so much fun along the way.  Next week, here we come!
