โจ๐ This Week in Our Classroom: Back to School! ๐โจ
Itโs time to grab our backpacks and get ready to learn! ๐๐๏ธ This week, our little learners explored the exciting world of school through hands-on activities, creative play, movement, music, and discovery. We talked about familiar school materials, practiced new skills, and explored what it means to be part of a classroom community. ๐ซโค๏ธ
๐ฃ๏ธ Language Development
ย ๐ Our toddlers explored a School Basket filled with familiar classroom items such as crayons, paper, clipboards, and colored pencils. They practiced identifying, naming, and imitating words as they discovered each item. We also placed simple picture cards inside a small backpack for children to pull out, explore, and identify! ๐๐
๐ง Cognitive Development
ย ๐ข We practiced early counting by placing 1โ3 large crayons into a container and taking them out one at a time. ๐จ We also explored color mixing by squishing two primary-colored paints together in sealed bags and watching new colors appear! ๐ Finally, toddlers matched large circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles to their corresponding outlines, strengthening their early shape-recognition skills. ๐ต๐จ๐บ
๐ Motor Development
ย ๐ช Our little learners used blocks to build their own classrooms and added people to encourage pretend play. ๐งฑ๐ซ We also turned chairs into a pretend school bus, giving toddlers opportunities to climb in, sit down, get out, and walk around the โbus.โ ๐ We strengthened fine-motor skills with slot-together animal toys and other hands-on building activities. ๐๐ฆ
๐ Social & Emotional Development
ย ๐ค We practiced one of the most important parts of starting school: greeting our friends! Toddlers pulled dolls and stuffed animals from a basket and practiced saying or signing โhello.โ ๐โค๏ธ We also used emotion mirrors to explore different facial expressions and help children begin connecting feelings with how we look and communicate them. ๐๐ฎ๐ข
๐จ Art
ย ๐๏ธ Our classroom became an art studio! Toddlers experimented with paintbrushes, sponges, glitter, and bingo daubers to create colorful artwork. ๐จโจ We also made a special handprint display to celebrate our little learners and the start of another exciting school year! ๐๏ธโค๏ธ
๐๐ Looking Ahead to Tomorrow! ๐๐
Tomorrow, weโll continue exploring the people, places, materials, and routines that make our school community special! ๐ซโจ
๐ฃ๏ธ Language Development: Weโll explore pictures of familiar school community members, including teachers, children, friends, cooks, and bus drivers, and encourage toddlers to identify the people and practice saying or imitating their names and roles. ๐ฉโ๐ซ๐จโ๐ณ๐
๐ง Cognitive Development: Toddlers will match crayons by color while practicing visual discrimination and color recognition. ๐๏ธ๐
๐ Motor Development: Weโll have fun with a โWalk to Schoolโ movement activity! ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ Toddlers will walk while the music plays and practice stopping and freezing when the music stops. ๐ถ๐
๐ Social Studies: Weโll explore pictures of the different people who help make our schools run smoothly and talk about the important jobs they do. ๐ฉโ๐ซ๐จโ๐ณ๐โค๏ธ
๐จ Art: Toddlers will create their own school-themed artwork by gluing pictures onto paper, giving them another opportunity to practice creativity and fine-motor skills. โ๏ธ๐ผ๏ธโจ
๐๐ซ We had a wonderful week getting ready for school! From backpacks and crayons to building classrooms and practicing greetings, our little learners discovered that school is a place for learning, friendship, creativity, and fun! ๐๐๏ธ๐ค๐จโจ
We canโt wait to see what our little learners discover next! โค๏ธ๐
