Exploring Under the Sea

As Sebastian from The Little Mermaid said – “Under the sea, Under the sea, Darling it’s better, Down where it’s wetter.” This week was all about under the sea. We began this week by discussing what we would see if we went under the sea. This included: octopus, turtles, sharks, and fish. From there we discussed what we would have to wear while swimming under because we can’t breathe in water. The class agreed on a wet suit, goggles, and an air tank for oxygen. This week, the children worked on letter recognition activities, writing our letters in rice and Under the Sea BINGO! At math, the children worked on ten frames, more or less activity and making patterns with shells. At the art table the children created their own jellyfish out of a brown paper bag, made a puffer fish from a craft roll, created the ocean by using a straw and blowing the paint as well as painted their own paper shell using water colors. Even though the weather seemed very wet this week, it did not stop Pre-K from going on at least one field trip to Westlake Rec Center. We spent our Thursday at the center playing with our friends and staying nice and dry. We had our swim day on Wednesday where the children played in the water and danced to some music. We will end this week with our friends from H20 (help to others) reading books to us and working on fun activities. We hope that the children enjoyed learning more about what is under the water and more fun to come next week. We hope you all have an amazing weekend!
