Oh the Places you will go! This week has been all about Dr. Seuss. We began this week by celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday which is March 2nd. We then discussed who Dr. Seuss was. We had to make a separation between the Cat in the Hat and Dr. Seuss. It was explained to the children that the Cat in the Hat was a character that Dr. Seuss wrote about. Did you know that Dr. Seuss found his love of rhyming from his mom. She would make pies and rhyme the flavors together. Also, Dr. Seuss was not an actual Dr., his dad wanted him to become one but he never did. His real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel and would sometimes go by other names besides Dr. Seuss such as Theo Lesieg (which is his last name backwards). We learned so many things about Dr. Seuss! From there, the children worked on many different activities throughout the week. At the language table we worked on letter recognition, beginning sounds and name hats. At the math table, we worked on number recognition and counting activities. The children created different art this week such as red fish or blue fish and green eggs. This week we also went to Emerson Elementary for a field trip. We do this every year so the children can get a little taste of what kindergarten will be like when they start. We also worked on our letter of the week which was Vv. We hope that the children learned a little bit more about one of our favorite authors and that you all have a wonderful weekend.
