Happy Birthday, Dr. Suess! This week, the children learned about Dr. Suess and why we spend the week talking about him and his books.  They learned that the books rhyme and noticed that the books were very long.  I explained that it was how they did things back in the old days.  The books are meant to be silly and fun.  The children said that they have some of the books at home but their parents read to them because it’s too long for them to read.

We made a Ww word list, came up with some silly rhyming words, the children practiced writing Ww using chalk boards and chalk.  They matched rhyming words by identifying the picture and trying to figure out what other picture rhymes with it.  They have been practicing writing words as well.  We are still working on lowercase letter writing as come children struggle with writing lowercase.

We finally completed our 100 Days of School chart!  The children are so excited to all of the numbers and they were walking up to it and saying what the numbers are.  We practiced writing numbers, did a math game where they had to count and clip.  We practiced writing numbers using the number cards.  They even counted out the number of words in a Dr. Suess book!

They drew a picture of Cat in the Hat, did a Lorax art project, and we drew a picture of One Fish, Two Fish book cover.

We have been continuing with the Book Playoff and the children told us that they cannot wait to see which book wins!  They are enjoying the books being read and they do recognize some of the books from either the PreK class or they have it at home.

We went to Emerson Elementary School to visit the Kindergarten classrooms.  This gives the children a chance to see the inside of the classrooms and if they are feeling nervous, they can ask the kindergarten child questions as they are walking around exploring the classrooms.

Don’t forget to sign up for the Special Friend’s Breakfast coming up on March 20!  The sign up sheet is under the parent board.   If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!
