It is Dr. Seuss week and lots of activities surrounding the them of his famous stories, rhymes and some silly tongue twisters! Monday in art the children the children glued red strips to blue paper and in language they explored rhyming words by matching rhyming pictures like chair to bear, and pie to eye. In math the children matched different colored patterned hats. Tuesday in art the children painted green eggs and ham and in language they dictated what their favorite thing to smell is. In math the children matched shapes. Wednesday in art the children glued letters to a tree and in language they matched letters to a red striped hat. In math the children engaged in a Dr. Seuss bingo fame. Today in art the children made red and blue hand prints and in language they matched more letters! In math the children matched number fish. Tomorrow in art the children will trace their feet and make a size poster and in language they will dictate where they like to walk. In math the children find matching footprints. In the sensory table this week the children explored water with fish, and they explored shredded paper. The children also did a science exploration to smell flowers, dirt, water, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice and discussed how they all smelled. The block area enhancement was a ramp and the children have enjoyed seeing what will ho down. First they tried cars and airplanes, then some people and they discovered the cylinder blocks rolled fast down the ramp. We put a basket at the bottom for the items to land in. The drama area was changed with some pots, green hats, green bow-ties, and gold and green coins! We are seeing a lot of different ideas with these materials and we will be adding more each week. Our art area is transforming to be more open with newer materials such as glue sticks, collage materials, scraps of paper and stickers. Colored pencils have also been added and the children enjoy having some independence to explore and create.
