This week’s theme is Winter and we talked about things that we need to stay warm, how to be safe when we are walking on ice, we talked about the rules regarding snowball fights and ice when we are playing outside.  The children know that we cannot throw snowballs  and ice at someone because we can hurt them and the friend may not like it when someone does that.

We made a list of words that start with Nn and they learned what sound the letter Nn makes.  After we made a list of Nn words, I wrote them down along with other words from word lists we did so far and they had to find the words that start with Nn.  They practiced writing Nn and letters from Aa-Mm as well.  They matched the names of clothes to its picture and we read a short book with the sight words we, get and they learned how to write a sentence using the words we, get.  They played a game where there were letters on mittens and they had to put them in order.

The children played Winter Tic Tac Toe game and they played Winter Same/Different where they had to figure out which objects were the same or different and they had to explain how they were the same/different.  They did a snowflake number recognition (0-15) where they had to identify what number it is.  We did Match It! Simple Addition, they practiced writing 13 on the dry erase board, and they played a game where they had to find the missing number.  They put the numbers that are on mittens in order, did greater than/less than game, and they counted the number of dots on the ten frames and they had to write down the number they counted.

They did a Winter art project where they made a winter scene using water colors.  The children have been working on a secret art project all week  and they made snowflakes using blue paper and white paint.  I think it’s safe to say that this week is their favorite week to do art projects because it was a little messy.

As you already know, Sparkles our Classroom Elf made his appearance and he has been watching over the children and letting Santa know how everything is going.  They love coming in the morning and seeing where he is.
