Lakewood Child Care Center

Whoa what a fun week! We had so many fun, hands-on activities and so many special guests! We played with dreidels all week! At the science table, we spun tops and dreidels and saw which one would spin longer. We were predicting before hand and then discussed our conclusions after the toys stopped spinning. For art, we practiced our cutting skills and cut out a dreidel shape and then we painted it with watercolors. They were the most beautifully colored dreidels ever! We also painted with cut potatoes (because why not?) and we made our own version of a candle to light up our window! Our math was all about counting when our dreidel spun. We stopped counting when it stopped spinning. We also played with tanagrams and made shapes with new shapes. One of our favorite language activities this week was the large letter puzzle pieces. We moved the language table out of the way to lay out all the letters! The sensory table was filled with blue and white shredded paper and pompoms. We used lots of imagination as we pretended we were having hot cocoa, bowls of soup or even a cup of ice! We got in a lot of outdoor time and one of our favorite times was when we got to watch the crane putting large metal pieces up on the room. We had several special guests. A Rabbi came on Monday to teach us all about Hanukkah. He left some chocolate gelt for us. On Tuesday, Margie’s mom read us the book Elf and brought her dog Atticus as a REALLY special guest! She left us with pencils and stickers! Wednesday was Evan’s mom. She shared how her family celebrates Hanukkah and she gave us each a dreidel. Thursday was Cole’s mom to read a Christmas story. We sure are a lucky bunch to have so many special people come to spend their time with us. We are so thankful for everyone and their generosity!
