It’s artist week in the infant room and our children are working hard on holding crayons and moving them to paper to make marks, while also using their fingers to finger paint their own little masterpieces. Not only are they creating but it is a great fine motor activity which will also help with spoon usage, which we are also working on daily. Our older children have been watching the squirrels and birds outside which always brings excitement and wonder! We have had some great small group activities like rolling a ball to one another and watching puppets perform some pretty neat songs and stories. The music mats have been out as well as stacking rings, busy boxes and peg boards. They have really been into watching others to decide what they should do next, which has them teaching each other quite a bit, which is so much fun to watch and see. We plan to have them stick tissue paper to contact paper, which they always enjoy and have a lot of fun doing. Shaking ribbons and square music instruments to different types of music has been interesting to watch and observe as they smile and move up and down. The youngest have been happily watching faces and listening to different types of books while they sit on our laps. It has been a fun week of creation and discovery. Next week will take us to the tropics as we enjoy luau as our theme.
