For dental health week the children have been learning a lot about foods that help make our teeth healthy and strong. Monday in art the children painted with a shaving cream and glue mixture on a tooth using a toothbrush. In language the children needed to find several letter T’s among other letters on a tooth. Once they found them, they practiced writing them. In math the children engaged in dental hygiene bingo. Tuesday in art the children explored finger painting, a great sensory experience! In language the children worked on letter writing as they wrote dental words. In math the children sorted foods into 2 groups of foods that are good for our teeth and foods not so good for our teeth. Wednesday in art the children painted with dental floss and in language the children needed to match lower case letters on a tooth. In math the children graphed teeth using marshmallows. This experience focused on number identification and counting. Today in art, the children did some roller painting and in language they dictated what happens at the dentist office. In math, the children matched colored toothbrushes and toothpaste to the matching color cup. Tomorrow in art the children will paint with marshmallows and in language they will match letters to the word tooth and practice writing tooth. In math the children will engage in a path game to get the train to the train station. In the sensory table this week, the children explored blue rice with small cups, funnels and mouthwash bottles. The children also did a little experiment with an egg and some vinegar. The children had learned how sugar turns to acid on our teeth and vinegar is an acid so the children have been observing the egg inside the vinegar for the last couple days to see the changes. This is a good way to show what too much sugar can do to your teeth. We also let them know it’s ok to have sugar sometimes for special occasions and holidays.
