It is finally Spring and that happens to be our theme for this week.   We talked about Spring and the children were able to tell me what they like about Spring.  They said that we don’t have to wear a jacket, we get to play outside, go to parks, the sun comes out more often, and the flowers start to grow. They said that it does rain more often but the flowers will need it to grow.  One of the children said that the birds will come back and some of the animals will come out of hibernation.  We talked about what animals come out of hibernation.  We had a discussion all week and we recalled some details that we talked about during the week.  We learned the different parts of a flower and the children used the unifex cubes to create their own flowers by using the parts of a flower poster as a reference.

We made a Zz word list, -un word list, we came up with a list of Spring words which the children practiced writing.  They practiced writing the letter Zz and they reviewed some sight words we learned so far.  The children wrote words on their own during self-directed play and they drew pictures to go with the words.

We did number recognition using the calendar, we learned how to solve math problems by using our fingers, we made flowers using unifex cubes, the children learned some math signs such as plus, minus, and equal. They practiced writing different numbers and they made different shapes with the geoboard.

They made umbrellas with raindrops hanging, watercolor flowers, and they made clouds by gluing cotton balls to the construction paper.  Some of the children used self-directed play to create their own umbrellas.

This week was a fun week but it was cold.  That didn’t stop us from getting our gross motor activities in.  We went to the Great Room where we flipped the dice to see which animal they had to be: woodpecker, squirrel, frog,  turtle, etc.  The children were very creative and they came up with different movements.  When we were done, they told me they were very tired and they don’t think they can move anymore.  They did say they had fun.

Thank you to our guests for coming to Special Friend’s Breakfast!  The children were so excited to eat breakfast and show off our classroom to their Special Friend!
