This week’s them is Pets and the children have enjoyed the fun learning experiences. Monday in art the children painted with a dog treat bone and in language the children dictated a story about their pet, or about what kind of pet they would want and why. In math the children sorted pictures of animals that are pets, or not pets. Tuesday in art the children painted fish bowls and in language they matched lettered fish to lettered fish bowls. In math the children added goldfish to a fish bowl using a die to determine how many to add each turn. Wednesday in art the children sponge painted and in language they matched more lettered fish to the bowls again and in math the children explored a pet lotto game. Today in art the children practiced their cutting skills as they cut black spots to glue to paper and in language they strung letters on spaghetti noodles. In math the children graphed and sorted pet counters into pets that fly, pets that swim, pets that walk, pets with fur and pets with no fur. Tomorrow in art the children will marble paint and in language they will create a list of what pets need, and talk about each. In math the children will work with a cat and dog 1 to 1 correspondence grid with animal counters. This week in the sensory table the children worked with various size and type turtles with large tongs, bowls and ice cube trays. In science this week the children worked with nuts and bolts.
