Lakewood Child Care Center

It’s pet week throughout the center and it has been so much fun with the experiences that the babies have had while learning about the different animals that could be our pets.  They have watched and explored puppets, listened to books, and played with stuffed animals such as dogs and cats.  Many of them have dogs and/or cats at home and while they can’t tell us about them, we know the names of many of them and will talk about them to the children, bringing many happy smiles when they recognize the name of their very special pet.  Fine motor activities this week centered around nesting cups, containers and lids, and our shape sorters.  They have practiced sticking stickers on paper and moved ice cubes colored with food coloring around on paper.  The older children are working on their clean-up skills to music and scarves and ribbons have been out to dance with to some fun music.  RIght now, figuring out how to stack blocks on top of one another is an exciting developmental skill that many of them are trying their hand at, while crawling, sitting and walking are still some big gross motor skills that some of our children are also accomplishing more every day.  It has been a week full of surprises and all of them are learning and exploring in their own way every day.  Next week will be all about bugs so a little different critter than we talked and learned about this week, but still just as exciting to them!
