Our theme is week is Bugs and the children LOVED this theme because they got to talk about bugs.  Our caterpillars arrived just in time as well!  We talked about the different bugs that we see outside and anytime we went outside, the children wanted to look for bugs.  Even though, it was raining all week, that didn’t stop us from looking for bugs.

We made a list of bug words, we practiced writing letters, names of bugs, we put together an ABC worm puzzle, and we reviewed letters and some sight words.

The children practiced writing numbers using the number chart, we counted bugs and looked for the number card, we did simple addition by using our hands to solve the problems, and we reviewed numbers.

We made a pom pom caterpillar that is on our window sill outside the classroom, butterflies using coffee filters and pipe cleaners, and we made a finger butterfly.

We went on a field trip to Emerson Elementary School to visit the two Kindergarten classrooms.  The children were so excited to visit the classrooms and the Kindergarteners showed them around their classrooms and talked about how much fun they will have.  They couldn’t believe how big the classrooms were compared to our small classroom.  It may be overwhelming right now but once they get to their classroom in the Fall, they’ll be fine.  We talked about it and they expressed to me that they can’t wait until they get to go to Kindergarten!  Thank you to Emerson Elementary School for allowing us to visit!

We also celebrated Week of the Young Child where each day was a different theme.  Our center closed early so that the children can see the Solar Eclipse with their families, we had tasty Tuesday where we made strawberry jell-o for the entire center and we got to take home some tasty treats!  Wednesday we drew pictures and signed our names on the Thank you cards for those  who came to our center to read books to us.  Thursday was Artsy Thursday where we made a textured painting and Friday was music with Ms. Mel from the Beck Center.

Thank you to Mr. Baker for coming to read a book to our class!  The children were so excited and one child in particular was even more excited because it was his dad that came to our classroom!
