Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! and Insects! This week was a fun filled week of all the creepy crawlies! On Monday some of our friends learned about the difference between a bug and an insect…yes! There is a difference. An insect has three body segments, wings, and six legs while a bug has a mouthpart that is made for piercing and then using it as a straw to suck like a mosquito and to shake it up even more…all bugs are insects but not all insects are bugs…we know, crazy! This week the children sorted the bugs/insects, use the bugs/insects for letter matching and measured some bugs/insects…not real ones of course. The children created bugs in a jar, lady bugs and butterflies. We have been watching our caterpillars grow…they’re getting big hopefully next week we might see some cocoons. This week we also celebrated the children…it was Week of the Young Child. Monday was family Monday…we hope everyone enjoyed the Solar Eclipse! (It was pretty cool). Tuesday was Tasty Tuesday and the children made themselves some trail mix…we came into Wednesday as work together Wednesday…we all came together to make Thank You cards for our guests who came to read to us…also a birthday card for Miss Tara and Miss Holle’s dear friend Miss Fran who is turning 100! Thursday was Artsy Thursday and our friends worked on some spray painting with spray bottles and paint. We end the Week of the Young Child on Friday with Music Friday with our friend Miss Mel from the Beck Center! Let’s not forget that on Wednesday, our friends got to visit Emerson Elementary to get a look of the kindergarten classrooms and meet Mrs. Intihar and Mrs. Carlson. It is always a blast to go visit them! We talked with the children about how they feel, some were excited, some were nervous and some were a little bit of both. We let them know that it is okay to feel all those emotions at once especially when it is somewhere new! We hope that the children had a fun week celebrating them and learning about bugs/insects. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
