This week’s theme is Transportation and we talked about different vehicles that are considered transportation. The children were able to come up with a list of things that move. We talked about how some are similar and different. They were shown different types of transportation vehicles around the world. Some of the children said that not everyone has a car but some have an animal that moves them from one place to another such as donkey, camel, or horse. Some said that some people use the bus to get around which is true as well because not every one is able to drive a car due to a condition they have.
We made a list of transportation words and practiced writing the words that we came up with. We dictated how we can be safe around vehicles, we looked for letters that have circles in them, we traced letters using cars. The children used the cars during self-directed play to write out names of vehicles or letters.
We played the transportation memory game, we did a transportation number recognition game, we counted by 5’s using number cards and number cart, and we did vehicle patterning. We also practiced writing numbers using car tracks and cars. This was a very popular activity because they wanted to use the cars and tracks. i overheard some of the children saying that how different it was using numbers as car tracks. They used our gray tracks to make numbers as well!
I read a book about signs that we see and do not see. The children wanted to create their own sign by using the book as a reference. They made drew, cut, and pasted their own vehicles, and they made a hot air balloon. We had a lot of creative juices flowing this week!
The children have been practicing for our annual circus and they are so excited whenever I announce that we are going to practice. I already sent out the invitations to our circus and if you have not received an email from me, please let me know and I will send you one.
Please check your child’s cubby to make sure that they have clothes that fit as the children are growing and playing. The children tend to get dirty when playing in the dirt looking for bugs.
