Our last theme for PreK 2 is Under the Sea.  We talked about the different animals that live in the ocean, where the oceans are located by using the map on the wall, and the different sea levels.  I wanted to give the children an idea of what it would look like if we were to go underwater and explore.  i used 2oz cups that had colored water in it and i had a picture of the layers of the ocean that had sea animals.  They learned the names of the ocean layers, what it looked like, where the sea animals live, and the temperature of each layers.

We made a list of ocean animals, they practiced writing names of sea animals, and they made letters using seashells.  We dictated what kind of animals we would like to see if we went scuba diving and the children talked about the different things we should do to keep our oceans clean so that the animals don’t get sick or hurt.  They said that we should pick up garbage on the beach and throw it away or put the garbage in the recycle

We did a Ocean number recognition activity where they had to pick a number and say what the number is. They did an activity where they had figure out if the numbers are odd or even and put the numbers in the correct category.  They did a sea shell counting activity where they picked a number and they had to count out the number sea shells.  We practiced counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.

The children drew a picture of the sea using books as references, they did a under the sea watercolor and glued animals to it, and they used blue paper and drew a picture of what they think looks like under the water.

We made it to the end of the year and i can’t believe PreK 2 is over!  This year seemed to fly by and they learned a lot.  I hope that they had a fun year with me and I can’t wait to have them in Summer Camp.  We have lots of stuff planned this summer and I can’t wait until we get started!

For those that are not going to Summer Camp, I hope that you have a great summer and have a great year in Kindergarten!  I will miss you and I enjoyed having you in my class.  Good luck and I hope that you come back for a visit!
