The School Age Summer Campers had a fun week learning about different sports.  We went to the Westlake Rec Center Park where we played on the different parts of the playground, we had lunch, and then we played Soccer, Baseball, and Football.  We went to the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center to see the different types of land and water animals.  The outdoor area is under renovation but that didn’t stop us from enjoying what they have to offer.  We went to the planetarium inside the center!  We loved seeing the stars and learned about the different constellations.  After enjoying the planetarium, we went to Wolf Rd Park for lunch.  We finished off the day playing lacrosse, kickball, and making a fairy garden.  We finished off the week by going to the Botanical Gardens where we got to see the different flowers and learning about them.  Some of the children commented how pretty the flowers smelled.  We explored the children’s area of the Botanical Garden by touching and feeling different things they have such as corn, seeds, flowers, etc.  The children’s favorite part is the beehive because they can go inside and pretend to be bees!  We had lunch at Wade Oval and then we got to play for a bit.  Some of the children wanted to have running races because after all, running is a sport!

Coach Charlotte came by this week and taught the children how to play Volleyball.  They learned different terms and how to properly hold the volleyball.  Ms. Joanne did Art with the children.  They used paint and a paint spinner to do different designs.  They also painted a flower which was made out of tissue paper.

The children had a busy week coloring a mandala, making sand art, and they did a baseball art project.  They did their own version of how they wanted their baseball art project to look.  They did different types of STEM activities such as rolling different balls to see which ball will go the farthest, See Two Pictures as One where they created a circle with designs and they had to twist the rubber band to make it move fast like a moving picture.  We did a Light Up rocket where they had to jump or stomp on the launch pad to make the rocket go in the air.  They did an experiment called Check Your Reaction Time where they were given strips of paper, they had to use a ruler to make lines so that they had 6 squares to color in.  After they colored the paper, they had to test it out with a friend to see who was able to catch the paper.

It was a fun and busy week for us!  We had so much fun learning new things and trying out ideas to see what worked and did not work.   Reminder, please make sure your children are wearing closed toed shoes because we do a ton of walking and crocs and sandals hurt their feet.
