In our case, it is time to start Pre-K! We have been busy with learning the rules of the classroom and practicing our new routines. Sometimes new things are hard, but with time and practice, we can do it! In our areas, we have been working on using materials with purpose and following directions from teachers. At the art table, we cut out our own fish to show that we are “O-FISH-ALLY a Pre-K friend!” We worked our small muscles as we used our scissors and then colored the paper fish (see the front window for the creations!) Since we have 5 brand new friends, we have been doing several “get to know you” situations and enjoy the “Hickety Pickety” one where we say our name and then the friend next to us. Our sensory table is now called “scissor salad” we have a lot of scrap paper in the table and are working on our scissor skills for the year. We tell the boys and girls, the thumb goes in the little hole and then up. The scissors go open, close, open, close. Our language activities have been to tell us what you want to learn in Pre-K and finding our names cards and telling letters that we know. Our outside time has been all about dirt and bike riding. We notice we have many children that are content to sit and dig for long periods of time. Since we now have a digging area on the playground and one on the patio, many of the boys and girls have kept themselves busy with a shovel and bucket. We are looking forward to our months ahead and getting to know each and every one of the boys and girls.
