This week was a fun week because it’s Colors Week! We wore different colors each day. We read books about colors and shapes. We talked about what colors and shapes we see outside and around our center. The children were able tell me what they saw and some were able to describe what they see as well. We did an M&M experiment where they got to see the colors of the rainbow, we cut an apple in half to see a star, and we left the apple out overnight. The children noticed the apple had turned brown and it looked yucky. We also did Rainbow Skittles experiment and we compared it to the M&M’s experiment that we had did. The children noticed that it took the Skittles a little longer to make a rainbow. They loved seeing the colors “melt” into the middle of the plate.
We traced letters using dry erase marker and dry erase board, we made a Bb word list, we dictated what our favorite color was and why the color is our favorite, and we did an Write the Wall: Word Shapes and Colors where we had to write the names. We recited the alphabet and learned what sounds the letters make.
We counted blue gems using number cards, the children traced a red triangle using red counters, they were given green circles, counted how many they had, and they had to find the number card. They created patterns using pattern blocks and mats. They were shown 3-Shapes and they had to try to say what the shape was.
We made a house out of shapes, we made apple slices with the apple that was cut in half dipped into red paint, and we did a Primary Color Paint mixing where the children got to mix colors of paint to create a new color. We used Q-TIPS so that we do not get our hands dirty. The children loved this activity because we normally use Q-TIPS to clean our ears!
We talked about Kindness and keeping our hands to ourselves this week. The children were given gentle reminders daily and scenarios how to deal with a situation if it came up. The children were able to tell me what they would do and how they would handle the situation.
We also had music with Ms. Mel this week! The children look forward to music and Ms. Mel was so excited to be back! We are happy to see her!
