It has been a week of learning about a different holiday other than Christmas and the books we read to them highlight just that.  They have listened to stories about the colors and the meaning behind Kwanzaa.  They have played with the lacing toys, discovery boxes, nesting cups, shape sorters, and stacking rings.  All have tried their hand at finger painting, stamping, and sticking items to contact paper.  Old MacDonald puppets have sang songs and have given them the chance to hear different sounds that farm animals make.  The push and pull animals have been a big hit as they watch them race across the room where some can crawl after them so they can watch them do it again.  They have practiced safe hands and how to give hugs.  We have put some emphasis on families and have talked about who they see on our family board.  Rolling balls and stacking blocks have continued to be in the forefront of play with some of our older children so we make sure they get as many opportunities to try it out as they want to throughout their day.  They also have taken an interest in helping us turn the pages of books that we are reading to them.  Emotions have been a little high so we are putting some of our focus an talking about feelings as well.  As always, gross motor and fine motor skills are still worked on and many are making great strides.  It has been a great week about vibrant colors and family during this week of Kwanzaa.  Next week, our theme turns toward Christmas!
