“Every child is an artist” is one of my favorite sayings and i do believe that every child is an artist.  We talked about different artists such as Aurora Rayes Flores, Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Cecily Brown, and Ansel Adams.  Each of these artists that we learned about his week had different styles and not all of the artwork was the same.  For example, the children learned that Aurora Rayes Flores was a painter who painted murals, Jeff Koons made a huge art sculpture of a balloon animals out of stainless steel.  Damian Hirst was a sculpture who did Installation art, Cecily Brown was famous for her abstract art, and Ansel Adams did landscape photography.  I explained that each artist has a different view on what they think is art. I always tell the children that are is everywhere and we see art in different mediums such as  stained glass, pottery, jewelry, and so on.  They were shown pictures of different artists we learned about his week, what their famous for, and the artwork they did.  We talked about different tools that artists use and that we can use every day item to make art.  They seemed to enjoy learning about the artists, different styles, and mediums of art.

We made a Uu word list, played a letter matching game using pictures and trying to figure out what sound the first letter makes.  The children put the lego letters in order, write the artists names in lowercase, practiced writing, Uu, practiced writing the different tools that artists use, and  they did a letter puzzle where they had to put the letters in order from Aa-Zz.

They did an activity where they had to put the legos with numbers in order from 0-20, pick a number card and count out the number of paintbrushes.  They did a Three part math matching game where they had to match the numbers to the dots and lines, they did a math count and match game where they had to count the number of objects show in the picture and find the corresponding number.  They did a math number puzzle mat and played number hopscotch.

We painted a mural where the children painted theirs on gray construction paper, we sculpted clay, painted the clay when it was dry and we used a camera to take pictures.  The children had a fun week doing different things in Art.  Some of it was messy and some of it was fun!  We certainly enjoyed getting our hands dirty!
