It’s a week all about our teeth and how to take care of them. Our children that are over a year old, brush their teeth daily with water as they learn to use their toothbrush the correct way to help prepare them for a lifetime of dental health. Activities this week have included pounding benches, shape sorters, sensory bottles and dancing with ribbons – experimenting with what to do with them and how they can make them work. Art has had them coloring with chalk and crayons while they learn to make marks and scribble on paper. Fine motor activities had them pulling tape off of the toy shelf (some while learning to stand and balance themselves at the same time). Our youngest children have practiced tummy time while looking at sensory balls which held their attention for several minutes. Also, they have been figuring out how to manipulate toys by holding onto them and moving them up and down on a surface. They played with our vinyl play food while we talked to them about what was good for them to eat. They tried throwing balls into a laundry basket, figuring out that if they let them go, they had the opportunity to take them back out again. We have been using hand over hand practice with using a spoon and tilting cups back during meals, which they rather enjoy doing. Containers and lids, various instruments, and building with blocks have also been out for them to explore. We have enjoyed this week of teeth and learning and are ready to start a new week of fun.
