This week, we went to Clague Park and we were amazed at the renovations they did! It looked like a brand new park and the children LOVED it! They had so much fun going down the slides, running up and down the hills, and they ran around the playground. We went to the Cleveland Natural History Museum where they also did renovations and added so many wonderful new things! They added more interactive things such as what it would feel like if an earthquake happened, they pretended to collect stardust to make planets, saw dinosaur bones, felt bones, and there was many other things that it’s impossible to name them all! They said that they liked the museum better this year than last year. They asked me if we could go back next year. We went to the Beck Center where they learned a new dance, listened to music, did some art, and learned about theatre. They spent at least 30 minutes in each station. Some of the children told us that they are currently in classes at the Beck Center or have taken some classes. Afterwards, we went to Kaufmann Park for lunch and we played for a little bit before returning to the center. We went over the rules before we went on field trips so that the children know what to expect.
Ms. Joanne came to do art with the children and they used oil pastel and painted with watercolors. Then she had them draw a picture of anything they wanted using watercolor pencils. They expressed how much fun it was doing art because it was something different.
Our theme this week is Under the Sea where the children drew pictures of an Ocean, they did a suncatcher, and they wanted to make snowflakes for fun. We wanted to give them an option to do whatever art they wanted and that’s what they chose to do. We talked about what kinds of sea animals live in the ocean and what types of sea animals that we can see when we go to the aquarium, zoo, or different places that have animals. Most of the children said that we can see different types of fish, otters, sea lions, penguins, and sharks. They were able to tell me the difference between Lake Erie and the ocean. The water in the oceans contain salt and Lake Erie does not and it’s considered fresh water. We used the map to show the children the different bodies of water.
Next week, we will be going to Huntington Reservation, and Kaufmann Park and on Friday is Mud Day so please make sure your child has a change of clothes, swim suits, and a bag to put their wet stuff in. There is no field trip that day.
