The children have engaged in many activities centered around the rain forest and jungle theme. Monday in art the children painted paper plates green with bubble wrap to make snakes. In math the children engaged in a rain forest bingo activity that showed the many animals that live in the train forest. Tuesday in art the children did some finger painting, a great sensory exploration. In language the children matched letters to a letter grid and in math they matched butterflies by their patterns. Wednesday in art the children explored tree resist art; they placed 4 strips of tape on their paper, and then used pom poms to paint light and dark green all over the paper and when they dried they peeled off the tape to see their trees. In language the children practiced writing rain forest words and in math they matched numbers to the numbers on a toucan. Today in art the children did some watercolor process art; they first colored on foil with markers, then sprayed the foil with water and put the wet side down on paper and pulled back to see what it created. In language the children did more rain forest word writing, and their names too. In math the children patterned jungle animals either by color or by animal. Tomorrow in art the children will explore cutting and gluing with greens and browns and in language they will dictate what they would see if they went walking in the rain forest. In math the children will play a rain forest animal roll n’ cover activity. In the sensory table this week the children worked with green rice, tree blocks, and insects. The children have also been showing more creativity in the drama area where we have an apple orchard set up; we added donuts and pies and cups for cider with pots and pans and we’ve seen the children making applesauce, more apple picking, and sharing donuts. Today they were very interested in the dress up wearing jeans, flannels and overalls. For the children’s interest and sharing favorite books, it has started well and the children are excited when their book gets read to others.
