Leaves are changing, it’s getting cooler…must be a sign of Fall! This week was all about the season of fall. On Monday we discussed that it was the first day of fall and that summer is officially over. We then talked about how we know that fall is here and there were many good answers. The children said that the leaves turned colors, you wear long pants and sleeves because the weather starts to get cooler. We talked about why the leaves change colors…in simple terms…when the trees get cold, they stop producing for the leaves and the chlorophyll which causes the green color slows down and they essentially loose their color and fall off the tree. From there we worked on some fun activities this week such as number recognition, counting and number matching. At the language table, the children worked on writing fall words, putting leaves in ABC order and an alphabet match activity. The children became creative at the art table creating a tree by painting their hand and using their fingertips to create leaves. The children also made leaf rubbings and an acorn out of a coffee filter and a scarecrow from a paper bag. Last week we started our alphabet and introduced the letter Aa. This week we worked on the letter Bb. We read a Bb book, worked on the letter sound, came up with some words that began with the letter as well as listening to the Bb song. We will end this fun week with Miss Carly from the Beck Center with some music! We hope the children enjoyed learning about Fall this week and there is more to learn next week with Community Helpers. We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
