We introduced the theme with songs, books, finger plays, banners, baking, and activities. The children were given opportunities to express themselves, give ideas and thoughts about various community helpers. Community helpers dress up clothes were provided in the drama area so the children can use their creative imaginations.
Art
Monday- Police car- the children glued on various materials to resemble a police car
Tuesday- Picture day- NO ART
Wednesday– Bakers hat- the children stamped various foods with ink pads and peeled cupcake/donut stickers to add
Thursday-Dr. Bag- The children glued on cotton balls, band aids, community helper stickers and thermometer
Friday-Dentist- The children painted on red paper with tooth brushes and white paint
Math
The children explored with various size colored bears to compare size, name size and group by colors, various size red solo cups to stack/build and/or stack by size, colored animal donut rings to string by color or same color animals, magnet numbers with cookie sheets to practice counting and number recognition, and counting alligator teeth on grid board to count and place on grid one by one.
Motor Development
Follow the road with cars to stay on the track and manipulate the cars in various directions, Fireman line tracing boards in various directions with markers, The children used small spatulas to flip the cookies on the cookie sheet over to see the numbers and name if recognized numbers or name what they think the number is, foam blocks with heart picks and thermometer craft sticks to poke and press into the foam to strengthen their fingers/hands, tooth brushes with jumbo blocks and tooth paste to practice tooth brushing in various directions.
