This week was all about numbers and we started our week off by talking about how old we are! Did you know we have 3 different ages currently in our classroom? Since one friend JUST turned five this week and another friend doesn’t turn 4 until the beginning of next month, we have three ages in the room. We also did some review from a few weeks back when we talked about fire safety and calling 911. We discussed how we need to know our address or where we live in order to tell the 911 operator. This week we practiced and asked the boys and girls to try to learn the numbers on the outside of their houses. For art, we rolled a die and added that many bingo dots to our paper. We also used number stamps to make colorful pictures. For math, we have been doing lots and lots of counting. We have used various materials to work with. We made piles of more or less and learned how to “guess” if they are the same. For language, we did some writing practice and wrote out the words one through ten. We are still working on our pencil grips. Each time we use a different writing tool, we are exposing the children to a variety of ways to write. Our block area has been bustling with numbered cars and driving all over the city road (rug). The sensory bin has been filled with buttons, tongs and containers to sort, count and use our small muscles to pick up the tiny materials in the bin. We got lucky with the weather and got LOTS of outside time this week. Unfortunately, the construction has not begun across the street, but we remain hopeful it will be going soon and we will be able to watch for the trucks and lots and lots of dirt!
