Winter is officially here and that also happens to be our theme of the week. We talked about what words comes to mind when we think of Winter. The children came up with things like snowballs, sledding, hot chocolate, skating, and so on. They were able to use their prior knowledge to come up with words. I posed the question of what do we need when we go outside and they were able to tell me that we need hats, gloves, mittens, boots, snow pants and I asked them why do we need these things; they said things like to keep us warm and to keep our clothes dry.
We made a Nn word list, practiced writing Nn words, they used different pictures to identify the object and they had to figure out if the picture is a Nn word. I wanted them to practice the letter sounds so that this will help them identify the letter. They also practiced writing letters from Aa-Nn using the magic writing board. I had the children do an activity where they had to choose a mitten with letters on them and they had to find the letters written on snowballs that matched the mitten. Each mitten had to have 2 snowballs.
We did a mitten number activity where they had to find the missing number, they put the numbers in order, and they had to match the mitten numbers. We did a greater than/less then activity where they had to figure out which number is bigger or smaller. We also did a Match it! Simple Addition activity. I also did a number recognition activity with them.
The children have been working hard this week on the secret art project they are making for their parents. They are so excited to give them to their parents for Christmas! We made pictures and cards for Ms. Brenda who is not feeling well. They were so excited to draw pictures for her because they wanted her for feel better. Get well soon, Ms. Brenda!!
Starting next Friday will be School Age days and it also happens to be Polar Express Day! The children are so excited to wear pajamas, watch Polar Express, eating cookies and drinking hot chocolate. Nap bags can go home next Thursday and your children won’t need them the following week as it is also School Age days.
