We celebrate the holiday of Hanukkah this week. Monday in art the children made sun catcher of the Star of David and they are displayed on the patio window. In language the children matched lettered candles to letters on a Menorah and in math the children engaged in a Hanukkah memory game. Tuesday in art the children painted with dreidels and in math the children sorted Stars of David by size. Wednesday in art, based on their interest to color we gave them a large box to use markers and bingo dabbers on. In language the children traced letters with pom poms and in math the children explored a latke count and match game. Today in art the children did some cutting and gluing with Hanukkah wrapping paper. The block area had some additions of a ski slop and a tube tunnel dded so there was a ton of interest with this experience this morning. Lots of people going down the slope and cars going down the tube. This afternoon we will introduce the dreidel game. Tomorrow in art the children will paint with bows and in language they will practice writing Hanukkah words. In math the children will play more of the dreidel game. In the sensory table this week the children explored memory foam with dreidels, bowls and coins. In science the children explored dreidels and spinner tops. The drama area is currently the gift wrap center and the children have been so busy working with tape, wrapping paper, scissors and boxes. We are seeing them stuff the boxes and gift pouches with toys or paper, and they are practicing cutting amounts of paper they need. The children have also learned how to use a tape dispenser and now we need to switch the focus to small amounts and where to place the tape. It has been quite a hit though, and a fun mess! The block area started the week with toilet paper, and paper towel tubes and we saw some creativity and lots of microphones! We are excited to bring more fun experiences to the block area dn drama area.
