ALOHA! This week we brought the warm weather to us with a Luau!! Hula in the Coola wad a big hit. The children wore their best Hawaiian gear and came out to hula, play limbo, sac races and of course a photo op with the surfboard! When we think of a Luau…we think Hawaii! We spent some time learning about Hawaii…especially the volcanoes caught our interest…did you know one of the volcanoes: Kilauea is actively erupting and we watched some live feed of it. We learned that sometimes when there is too much pressure somewhere and it has nowhere to escape…it causes things to explode which is what happened with the volcano. We learned that Aloha means hello and goodbye and even love you. The children learned that Ohana means family…thanks to Lilo and Stitch and of course one of the many books we read this week. The children worked on letter recognition and writing activities this week at the language table as well as Aloha BINGO. At the math table, the children worked on sorting and making patterns with shells and mini umbrellas. They worked on number recognition activities and measuring paper surfboards. The children became little artists creating pineapple rip art…leis out of flowers…and hand print palm trees. At science the children played with sensory bottles filled with water, oil and fish! (Not real ones of course). We took a step back from all the Hawaiian fun and worked on the letter of the week…Rr. We came up with Rr words, read and Rr book and worked on the Rr sound. We hope the children had fun bringing Hawaii to us. We hope that you all have a wonderful weekend…warmer weather is coming just hang in there a little longer!!!
