It is our favorite theme, Luau! Celebrating the warm islands of Hawaii and hoping we get some warmer days here soon. Monday was our Luau party in the great room; we did the limbo, some hula dancing and jumping sack races! In art the children painted pineapples and in language the children needed to find the letters of their name and glue them to paper. In math the children explored patterning flowers. Tuesday in art the children began working on a class tiki totem where they each decorated a part of it and in language the children practiced writing the words of the Hawaiian islands. In math the children counted Hawaiian items on a card and clipped the matching numeral. Wednesday in art the children continued with the class tiki totem, painting more pieces of it. In math the children matched surfboards by number. Today the children engaged in a fine motor activity to string tissue paper flowers on yarn for a lei necklace. In math the children engaged in an Aloha bingo game. Tomorrow in art the children will paint flowers and in language they will dictate what they will do when they go to Hawaii. In math the children will glue leaves on a pineapple and counting how many. In the sensory table the children explored crushed up cheerios to represent sand and used sand toys. The block area prompts on the wall are sparking interest for the children to build with the unit blocks and we are seeing so many elaborate constructions. The children are cooperating ad coming up with so many ideas in their block play.
