It is St. Patrick’s week with lots of green, pots of gold, rainbows and shamrocks!. In art this week the children have explored tearing green and orange paper to glue onto white, they have painted shamrocks, painted with gold rocks, glued popcorn kernels to a pit of gold and tomorrow they will paint with different shades of green. In math the children explored using subitize cards to add coins to a pot using the cards. The cards showed different quantities for the children to either count, or some knew the quantity without counting, The children also looked at various shamrocks to talk about ones that looked the same and ones that looked different by the designs on them. The children also worked with number s by rolling a die, counting the dots and then finding the corresponding numeral on a rainbow. The children will also be graphing Lucky Charms! In language this week the children have matched letters, explored pre writing by tracing lines, dictated stories of what they would do if they were a leprechaun and played some I spy of green items. The children matched colors word strips to the color words and tomorrow they will sort letters that have holes and no holes. In the sensory table the children worked with green gems, green tissue paper, green paper, shamrock and rainbow erasers. The drama area was popular with all the coins and pots of gold. Bunny ears, eggs and baskets were added and we saw lots of green hats with bunny ears! Today we changed up dram to a veterinarians office with scrubs, doctor bags, cats and dogs. We will add more as we go for this fun dramatic scene. The block area has been busy with the dollhouse and the magnet blocks. The children continue to enjoy freely going to the art shelf to create their own works with paint sticks, glue, and cutting. Thank you to our parents who have been coming to read and do activities this week!!
