It’s the luck of the Irish! Instead of celebrating one day…we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day all week! We began our week by discussing why we celebrate this day. We watched a short video for kids to talk about the history of St. Patrick. St. Patrick was born in Britain but was taken to Ireland to work for others. Once he got away, he became a priest and returned back to Ireland. We celebrate him on March 17th because that was the day he passed away and we honor him on this day, and we wear green because it is considered the color of Spring. We always have to throw in some history so the children know why we celebrate certain holidays. This week the children worked on letter recognition, BINGO and beginning sounds at the language table. At the science table, the children worked on their math skills by counting how many coins it took to sink the pot. At the math table, the children worked on sorting, number recognition and counting skills. The children used their creativeness at the art table to make rainbows using water colors, shamrocks using peppers, finger print gold in a pot and making sure a leprechaun had his beard. This week we made a leprechaun trap to try and catch him with his gold. Unfortunately, Lucky as he calls himself got away from us and took the gold! He did leave us some skittles though. We also worked on the letter Xx this week…not many words start with this letter! We also plan to respond back to our friends in Miss Katie’s class…if you have not seen yet, they made us wonderful Shamrock Buddies that we have hanging up on our window. We hope to send them back something fun (try and decorate some foam eggs for Easter!). We hope that the children enjoyed this week learning about St. Patrick’s Day and celebrating with us! Don’t forget to check out our pictures on the Google Drive! 🙂 We hope you all have a wonderful and safe weekend.Â
