🐞 This Week’s Theme: Creepy, Crawly BUGS!

This week we explored the fascinating world of bugs. The children learned that bugs come in all shapes and sizes and that each one moves and behaves in its own unique way.

We talked about:

  • Where bugs live — inside our homes, outside in the yard, in the grass, under rocks, and up in trees.
  • How bugs move — some crawl, some fly, some hop, and some move very fast while others move slowly.
  • Bug safety — some bugs can bite or are poisonous, while many are completely harmless.
  • Helpful vs. harmful bugs — we discovered that some bugs help our environment by pollinating plants or breaking down waste, while others can be invasive or cause problems.

The children enjoyed sharing stories about bugs they’ve seen and learning more about the tiny creatures that play such an important role in our world.

We also created a bug word list, and the children practiced writing each word on their own. They enjoyed a butterfly matching game, which helped them strengthen their memory and early reading skills. This week we continued reviewing the letter Gg, and the children came up with their own list of words that begin with the letter. They practiced writing letters, explored letter sounds, and participated in a fun letter review to reinforce what they’ve learned.

In math this week, the children practiced counting bugs using number cards and worked through simple addition and subtraction problems. They also learned how to compare quantities by using the terms less than, greater than, and equal to. Along with these activities, the children practiced writing numbers, helping them strengthen both their number recognition and early math skills.

In art, the children had a wonderful time creating their own bug‑themed projects. They drew pictures of different bugs, made colorful butterfly puppets, and created caterpillars out of pom poms, which they carefully glued onto sticks.

Just a reminder that this week we will be closing at 3:00 pm on Thursday and closed on Friday as the teachers will be attending the OAEYC Conference. Thank you for your understanding and support!
