Lakewood Child Care Center

We actually have construction ALL THE TIME, but this week was more hands-on activities with art, math and language! We had tools, rocks, hard hats  and a giant box in the block area for building. We built tall towers and little ones, too! We used our construction cones to block the area so no one could knock down our creations. For art, we made toolboxes, traffic cones and drew pictures of some trucks we like. For math, we counted, sorted, and patterned with cones. We played a construction match game and used measuring tape around the room (that’s one of our favorite math activities!). In the sensory bin, we had beans and “dirt” for the trucks to scoop and dump. We used small cones to adjust the “roads” we made in the table and had so many discussions on who was making what and how it was being built. Tuesday was a super fun day at Bradley Nature where we played on the climber, did some swinging and went for a hike around the pond to see so many frogs! We saw a deer and some squirrels running in the woods as well. Wednesday was water play day! That’s always fun to cool off in a pool. Since it was so hot that day, we saw almost everyone in a pool all at the same time (that doesn’t usually happen as these boys and girls like to “wash” the walls with water or dance in front of the preschool picture window). Thursday’s morning field trip was a highlight of the week. We got to go to Little Diggers. Even though their air wasn’t working, it didn’t bother these Pre-K friends as they played and played and did not want to come back to school. We will wrap up our week with more construction books and fun and some watching over the patio wall in hopes the construction workers give us a wave or two!
