We introduced the theme with various pictures each day of famous African American people who invented things, made changes in the world or famous for something. We touched on it briefly using words they would understand such as being kind ,to all people no matter how they look. We briefly described different skin tones that people have, and we love and care about everyone.
Art
Monday-Martin Luther King Jr.- Made a cloud in relation to “I had a Dream” by painting with karo syrup and blue food coloring
Tuesday-Rosa Parks-Kindness Board by stamping hand prints on poster board paper reading “Be kind, loving and gentle to everyone”
Wednesday-Barack Obama- stamped with star cookie cutters, red paint, blue paper.
Thursday-Jackie Robinson- Marble painted with a ball, white paper and red paint
Friday-Garrett Morgan- Traffic Light- glued red, yellow and green circles on traffic light shape
Math
Rainbow connect people to make color patterns, cotton balls and clothes pins to practice counting as they pick up each cotton ball, red, white,blue colored water cubes to match all the same colors in sorting tray, alternate colors and make shapes on the table, baseball ping pong/baseball w/ craft sticks to roll back and forth with peer/team work and practice rolling direction and eye-hand coordination and traffic light experiment[red.yellow and green food coloring/baking soda and vinegar.
Motor Development
Rainbow connect people to practice color patterns and connect hands/feet by pushing/pressing together, muffin baking tins with play-dough to pull a part and press inside each spot using thumb or fingers to build strength, scissors with printed paper to practice holding/grip/open and close motion, and begin to make slits/cuts , sports craft sticks with foam blocks for pushing down to make stand, and contact paper with green/red/yellow squares to stick on wall.
