This week the children learned a little about some famous inventors in black history who invented familiar things we know: the traffic light, Adhesive for a band aid, and street mailboxes. The children also listened to a story about Rosa Parks. Monday in art the children tore red, yellow, and green paper and glued to circles to make a traffic light, in math the children matched numbers and in language they constructed letters with Popsicle sticks and pipe cleaners. Tuesday in art the children painted with a comb, in math they engaged in a tie concentration activity and in language they practiced writing letters on dry erase boards. Wednesday in art the children painted with bubble wrap, in math they patterned bear counters either by size or color and in language they graphed letters to see which ones were curvy, straight or both. Today in art the children painted with sponges and in math they added fruit counters to a 1 to 1 grid using a die; and in language they matched their classmates names together. Tomorrow in art the children will paint with kitchen scrubbers and in math they will engage in a famous inventions picture match. In language they will look at various pictures and tell a story from it. In the science area this week the children explored ramps and explored moving things down the ramp, and up the ramp. We also saw children figure out how to get the cars to land in a basket on the floor at the end of then ramp. In the sensory table the children worked with water, tongs, animal counters and ice cube trays. This week there was lots of gross motor activity to practice many skills such as jumping over objects, bear crawls, crab walks, balancing on one foot, tossing bean bags in hoops, balancing bean bags on head and other body parts; and many more!
