This week’s theme is St. Patrick’s Day and the children did a lot of fun stuff this week. They did different science activities such as trying to sink the black pot with beads and counting how many beads it took to sink the pot. They explored with Skittles and water by creating a rainbow, they did an experiment called Fizzing Rainbow where they used food coloring, water, and Alka-Seltzer to make the rainbow fizz out of the pots. They also did Rainbow Walking experiment where they put one color in each cup with water and food coloring, put each end of the paper towel in the cups to create a rainbow. They enjoy these experiments because it’s messy and fun. The children did something different this year. They had to work together to build a leprechaun trap by using the Wooden Builder blocks and cups to try and trap a leprechaun. They had so much fun and they were really creative!
They did some fun art projects as well such as creating their own St. Patrick’s Day art project, they made a shamrock man by cutting out the shamrock and gluing strips of orange paper for the feet and bass. They had the option to make a face. They created their own rainbow with a black pot by gluing colorful sticks together and gluing a black pot on top as if the rainbow was coming out of the pot, they made a face of a leprechaun by painting orange paint for its beard by using a fork, making their own hat out of green paper, and finishing off by making the eyes, nose, and mouth.
The children worked on various math and language art activities such as number recognition, dictation, matching letters, letter sounds, etc. They were able to create letters and numbers using pattern blocks and mats.
The children had a fun week doing things that were messy. They learned a lot about how we can use every materials in a new way.
