This week’s theme is Mothers where we talked about if we have any plans for our Mommies for Mother’s Day and what we love about our Mommies. The children agree that they love their moms and that their moms do a lot stuff for them. Our moms take care of us when we are sick, hurt, or even when we feel sad. We talked about different names we have for our moms such as Mom, Mommy, Momma, Mama, Mother, etc. One of the children told me that it’s not nice for them to call their mom by the first name and I asked why? The child’s response was, “Her name is Mommy and only adults and teachers are allowed to call my mommy by her name. The only time I can call her by her name is if I’m lost, I can tell an adult her name so that they can call her”. The children were able to tell me things that they like to do with their moms such as play games, cook, help clean the house, take care of their younger sibling, etc. They said that the love to help their moms because their moms help them all the time.
We did All about My Mom where the children dictated and I wrote down their responses. They did a Beginning sound game, matched lowercase letters to uppercase letters, practiced writing their first and last name, and they did a few surprises for their moms. They also did an Alphabet Soup activity where they had to name the object and place it according to the letter sound.
They practiced writing numbers using number cards, counting cookies and matched the cookie to the corresponding number, they practiced counting using 1:1 correspondence, and they did an activity where they had to count the number of blueberries on the muffins and write the number down. They did an activity where they used straws and jacks to build something. The children had to count the number of straws and jacks they used and their peer had to try to replicate what they made.
The children worked hard all week on making their mommies’ gifts and they hope that you like what they made! I was sworn to secrecy because they didn’t want me to say anything. They drew pictures of what they like to do with their mommies.

This week is also Teacher Appreciation Week. I wanted to take this time to thank you for all you do for us and thank you for the yummy treats, heartfelt cards, lunch, gifts, etc. Everything we got is appreciated and loved! We feel so spoiled!! Thank you again!
