It is that time of year to begin taking care of our gardens, and watching things grow. Monday in art the children painted with loofah’s and in language they dictated how a flower grows. In math the children built a vegetable garden by using a die to tell how many vegetable counters to add tot eh garden. Tuesday in art the children glued together parts of a flower and in language the children engaged in a carrot patch alphabet matching activity. In math the children did some weeding by using a die again to tell how many weeds to pull out of the garden. The garden was play dough and the weeds were Popsicle sticks, a good fine motor activity too. Wednesday in art the children painted with real flowers, and in language the children went digging for letters in a bucket if potting soil, In math the children measured flowers by height using cubes to stack along the flower and then count how high. There were also flowers they put in order by size from big to small. Today in art the children explored wet chalk art and in language they worked on writing gardening words. In math the children added seeds to a pot. Tomorrow in art the children will make some tissue paper kites and in language they will explore letter sounds. In math the children will trace numbers on flowers and put them in order 1-10. In the sensory table this week the children practiced washing fruits and veggies with soapy water and wash cloths. In science the children weighed vegetables and explored potting soil with gardening tools. The children also planted some beans. They dipped some cotton balls in water and put them in a bag, then they added a few beans. They are hanging in the window so we can watch them grow!
