Happy Camping!  This week’s theme is Camping and we talked about what we know about camping.  The children were able to tell me if they have ever went camping with their families and some said they did.  I asked them what they did and they told me that they went fishing, hiking, ate food, played with other kids at the camping site, and ate s’mores.  I asked them what they brought with them and they told me they brought sleeping bags, toys, and their favorite food.  We explored in the dirt and sand using measuring cups, regular cups, spoons, and measuring spoons.

While we were talking about what was brought on the camping trip, we made a list of camping words, safety rules for camping, and recalled details to the books being read.  They did a letter matching game where they had to match the uppercase frogs to the lowercase letters on the lily pads.  They did a Camping Bingo activity.

They played a Match It math game where they had to either add, subtract, or count the number of objects, they played a Camping memory game, they did a Wooden Stacking blocks activity where they had to use different shapes to build a cave or tent, They built a cabin using Lincoln logs and they had to count how many logs they used to build the cabin.  We played a pick up sticks game using straws and connectors as sticks.  The children were able to count how many sticks they picked up.  They did a marshmallow and sticks activity where they had to make a shape.

The children made a handprint fire, they made their own binoculars out of craft rolls where they colored it using markers and they glued the two craft sticks together.  I finished off the binoculars by tying strings to the ends that were hole punched.  We made s’mores out of construction paper and the children were able to pick up sticks and glue them to the s’mores.

This week was fun because we learned about Camping and what sorts of things that we can do while camping.  We finished off the week by taking the binoculars that we made and used them to look at birds outside.  The children even got to make real s’mores!  They were so excited to do this and I gave them the option to either eat at school or take it home.  They wanted to take it home so that they can show their mom and dads their s’mores.

Just a reminder: please make sure your child is in tennis shoes and not crocs and sandals.  Tennis shoes is safer when they are climbing on the climber and we don’t want your child to get hurt.  Please make sure they have socks on.
