It is all about the farm, the animals and the crops this week in preschool. Monday in art the children painted with feathers and in language the children worked on rhyming words, matching the picture rhymes together. In math the children engaged in a number sense activity to count the number of eggs on a card and place them to the correct numeral on the chicken in it’s coop. Tuesday in art the children explored milking a cow! Paint was put inside a glove and held over paper, the children practice squeezing the paint out, just like a farmer would squeeze the cows udder for milk. In language the children did some farm poetry where they chose an animal they want to be and then shared what the animal can do, what it feels like, what it smells and what color it is. In math the children engaged in a farm to table sequencing activity to put in order the process, using pictures, of what happens to the food when it leaves the farm; foods such as milk, grapes, oranges and the wheat becoming bread. The children also worked on their fine motor skill to cut by helping cut watermelon for snack. In science the children made predictions about what would happen when we put a watermelon into a large container of water. The children each got to hold the watermelon and learned how heavy it was. Many predictions about the watermelon sinking or floating. The children elarned that it sunk and also say how the water rose, and poured out over the container. Wednesday in art the children loofah painted pink and in language they practiced writing letters to form farm animal words. In math the children added corn to a corn stalk, using a die to tell how many yellow pom poms to add to their corn. Science was to make a sm’ore! The children used a rebus to tell the steps for putting together their s’more, and they ate them after lunch, yum! Today Iin art the children started stuffing their bags, and this afternoon they will piant them to create a corn stalk. In language the children matched upper case letters to lower case letters and in math they worked on vegetable number puzzles. Today was also swimming day, and while it was a little cooler, the children had a ball! Tomorrow in art the children will glue cotton balls to paper to create a sheep and in language they will dictate what they would have on heir farm. In m,ath the children will play a musical chairs game to identify numbers under their chair when the music stops.
