This week’s theme is Rainforest. We talked about what animals live in the  Rainforest and if we see these animals in the zoo.  Some of the children said that they have seen some of the animals when they go to the zoo with their mommies and daddies.  We talked about the different layers of the rainforest and what animals are normally found there. We talked about the weather and if we can live in the rainforest.  Some of the children said that its dangerous to live in the rainforest because of the wild animals and that the animals can hurt us.  We learned that it rains a lot in the rainforest and it can get cold if we get wet.

We have been working on number recognition 0-10.  The children have been learning different ways that we can count by using color wooden blocks and number cards.  We traced numbers using rainforest animal counters and we we practiced counting to 10.  Some of the children stated that they can count higher than 10 and we listened to our friends counting.  We started adding numbers to our 100 Days of School Chart.  The children are so excited to see our chart get filled up!

We practiced writing names of rainforest animals, we learned about the different layers of the rainforest, we practiced writing letters on the laminated alphabet chart, and we found animals in books by using the cards.  Some of the children stated that they were able to find all the animals in the books.  This is a great way to help with matching and reading.  We do these types of activities throughout the year.  We started doing letters of the week and the children will give me words that start with the letters.  This is a great way for them to learn what sounds the letters make and learn uppercase and lowercase letters

We made a Red Eye Tree Frog, Toucan and we made fingerprint flowers as a present for Grandparent’s Day.  The children loved our art with week because it was messy!  Some of the children told me how much they love to make messes and I told them that we get to do some messy stuff in our classroom and they are so excited!

We have been working with the children on the rules of the classroom and when we play outside.  We talked about how we can be safe while we are playing and why the rules are important while we are in school.  We talked about keeping our hands to ourselves because some friends don’t like it when others are touching and we can accidently scratch our friends.  We give the children reminders daily so that they know what to expect while in PreK 2.
