Lakewood Child Care Center

It’s been a wild week as we talked about so many rainforest animals and watched them in their environments (via iPad). We also discussed our own personal zoo visits and the animals we saw. We compared the two places and discussed the ways animals can be different in the unique places. We have decorated our front window with some of our art for the week. Some snakes are hanging low and some lions are peeking out. Beware of the creatures watching you! For some math activities, we put tree frogs on logs (patterned and counted) and also did some animal designs with tanagrams. We matched up animal shadows with the appropriate picture and labeled animals as we know them. Our sensory bin has been filled with shredded green paper, blue gems, blocks, and lots and lots of animals. At the science area, we have been working on our engineering skills as we built treehouses and homes with leaves, blocks and tree parts. We learned that you can balance leaves flat on top of a tree part and you can have an animals rest there (all smaller pieces of course). Outside, we have been busy digging and exploring new outside toys for the month. All in all, we are all settling in nicely to our new school year.
